The Quality of Swimsuits

The Quality of Swimsuits

The prices of swimwear in the market vary greatly, and the corresponding quality is also different. As far as you know, what kind of material are swimsuits generally made of? What are the common problems with quality? What are the reasons for these problems? What aspects should be improved for the enterprise? Nylon, spandex, and polyester are currently the most used materials for swimwear; mostly nylon or polyester is interweaved with spandex. The common problems with swimwear include that the actual fiber content does not match the label and there is poor color fastness. The reasons for inconsistent fiber content are as follows:
  • Most enterprise laboratories are unable to establish the corresponding self-inspection. Enterprises cannot determine the composition of the raw materials used and are unwilling to submit for inspection or batch inspection. The fiber composition is labeled by the information provided by the supplier, which has poor accuracy.
  • Failure to correctly understand the requirements of relevant standards such as GB 5296.42012 "Instructions for Use of Consumer Goods Part 4: Textiles", GB/T 29862-2013 "Identification of Fiber Content in Textiles" and other relevant standards.
  • Some enterprises use bad goods to replace good ones or exaggerate the goods, misleading consumers.

The main reasons for poor color fastness are that swimwear with poor color fastness is easy to fade or transfer to the skin during wearing. At the same time, the dye molecules or heavy metal ions that fall off may be absorbed by the human body through the skin and affect the health of the body. Swimsuits are mainly used in swimming pools or beaches. Resistance to chlorinated water and sea water is especially important and problems easily occur. The reasons for poor color fastness are also more complicated, such as poor dye quality, unreasonable dyeing and finishing process and insufficient post-treatment may lead to poor color fastness. The deterioration of fitness and the decrease of the elasticity of the swimsuit after use are also common problems. This is mainly because spandex has poor chlorine corrosion resistance. The swimsuit will be soaked in swimming pool water for a long time. The poor chlorine resistance of the spandex will make its performance worse, resulting in poor elasticity of the swimsuit.

What are some good ways to identify whether the quality of swimsuits is qualified? What are the special features of the use and maintenance of swimsuits?
When choosing swimwear, they should first check whether the surface of the fabric has blemishes, color differences, stains, and whether the sewing track is straight and round. For swimwear with buckles and camisole, the firmness of the swimsuit should be judged. a high-quality swimsuit requires good elasticity and good resilience so that it can return to its original shape after being stretched many times. When purchasing goods, dealers should randomly take a few samples and stretch them several times by hand to see the elasticity and recovery of swimwear fabrics.

Swimsuits currently on the market are mainly made of nylon or polyester interwoven with spandex. Among them, the content of spandex is also an important indicator for judging the quality of swimsuits, and its content is generally above 15%. If the content of spandex is low, swimsuits will have poor fitness and elasticity. In addition, try not to choose styles with more pieces when purchasing swimsuits to avoid the stitching openings when you exercise a lot.

How to maintain a swimsuit?
Compared with ordinary clothing, swimwear is subjected to more intense wearing conditions. Long-term sun exposure, immersion in seawater and repeated stretching will affect the performance of swimwear. Only by maintaining good habits and carrying out reasonable maintenance when wearing, can the service life of swimwear be extended.

The following maintenance of swimsuits should be paid attention to:
1) Wash the swimsuit with clean water in time after swimming.
2) Do not use hot water when cleaning the swimsuit, and let alone boil it with boiling water.
3) Do not use high-temperature drying and ironing.
4) Avoid exposing the swimsuit direct to the sun.
5) Don't put wet swimsuits in sealed bags for a long time.
